Tmrw.Tday is proud to announce its first wave of headline acts at its Reggae Revival event.
Tmrw.Tday’s inaugural Reggae Revival event will be headlined by Jamaican reggae marvel, Protoje – a key player in the conscious, organic music movement. On his third studio album, Protoje plays alongside The Indiggnation – his reggae band. Together, they deliver socially, conscious lyricism that has resulted in sold out headline shows in the UK.
When asked about the Reggae Revival movement in Jamaica, Protoje tells us:
Everything happens in a cycle as a result of one type of music or one energy forces it to come back with another one. I just think that in Jamaica right now and in the world right now, every time there is a lot of trouble and turmoil in the world, reggae music creates an uprising.
Island Records founder, Chris Blackwell is an industry legend that has left his mark on not only the Jamaican music industry, but the international music industry. Island Records was responsible for transforming reggae into an internationally recognisable genre. It was Blackwell that recognized the young Bob Marley and the Wailers back in 1971. Blackwell has been involved in the development and marketing of many well-known artists through his record label; Tom Waits, the B-52’s, and U2 just to name a few.
According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, to which Blackwell was inducted in 2001;
“… he is the single person most responsible for turning the world on to reggae music.”
Blackwell will be hosting Tmrw.Tday’s feature dub event: The Negril Dub Cave Edition and will be doing so along with another very special guest. Stay tuned.
Wolf + Lamb
Wolf + Lamb is proof opposites attract. Extrovert and introvert, vegan and carnivore, cancer survivor and social saboteur – you’d expect no partnership like this could last for long. But for over a decade, these differences have only sparked the seismic energies that Zev and Gadi bring to dance music. Their music is backed with a subtle dance beat that is sure to get you moving. Wolf + Lamb decided not to stop at creating and performing, so they created a record label to bring music from artists with similar passions and influences to the rest of the world. The sultry beats of these boys is more than an escape; they tell a story and bring you on a journey through their music. They are part of music label Crew Love, which will be showcased at Tmrw.Tday’s beach party event.
Stemming from London, UK, DJ and record producer Toddla T brings bass, bounce, and carnival vibes from around the world. With his own show on BBC Radio 1xtra, he brings sounds of reggae and dancehall to people all over the world. Toddla T has done remixes, multiple studio albums, produced for other artists, and the list goes on. Most importantly, this UK DJ has always stayed true by distinguishing himself from other artists through his music and production techniques. We’re thrilled he’s bringing his unique vibe to Tmrw.Tday with an array of music across multiple genres.
Australian handpan musician Sam Maher is bringing something unique to Tmrw.Tday. The handpan, which is a very rare but highly sought after instrument, produces tropical and serene notes. Maher began his journey by traveling and playing to people everywhere, making a lot of friends and impacting a bunch of people along the way. A video of him playing in the New York Subway went viral on Youtube, and we’re sure glad it did because Sam is joining us Negril and will be performing at various events including the nightly sunset drum circles at Irie Soul Beach.
Gabre Selassie is the founder of the Kingston Dub Club. His weekly dub session at the venue is known as a “hot spot” in town. Jamaican Olympic sprinter Usain Bolt is a regular at Kingston Dub Club, and reggae artists Chronixx and Protoje have debuted new songs there. What started as a ‘hole in the wall’ has quickly become a critical venue central to the reggae revival in Jamaica. Selassie moves to his own rhythm and lives life to his own beat. Staying true to his roots has brought the roots movement back to Jamaica, and he will be bringing it right to us in Negril. The Negril Dub Cave will be hosted by Chris Blackwell at The Sands.
Tmrw.Tday is just beginning with its artist announcements. We have a lot more to come. Acts that will free your mind, and bring the movement of Tmrw into the moment of Tday. We can’t wait.
